Amanda Brugel
Brugel The only Canadian in the cast of Season 1 she was rarely watched. In Season 2, she became a regular cast member and continues to be a part of it today. When asked about her role on the show, and whether there was any parallels with her life prior to the cameras, Brugel stated that she drew on her own experiences with racism to relate to the way Marthas are dealt with. "I haven't used the same experience in her position as an Martha but also, as I've mentioned, my own past moments when I'm feeling like I was being held down by situations because of race." The race I'm from has never caused me to be physically hurt during my lifetime, but verbal abuse is something I've witnessed. Any sort of racial slurs that feel as a real hit or even a painful blow to me can be utilized in the show when someone says something that is hard and biting. The feeling that I get from it is present for almost every scene since I can feel as if she's been punched with a punch in virtually every scene."
